North Wales Coast
The North Wales Coast is a narrow strip of land that takes in some of the regions most popular tourist resorts including Prestatyn, Rhyl, Conwy, and Llandudno.
Other towns within the North Wales Coast region include Colwyn Bay, Abergele, and Kimmel Bay.
The northern points of the counties of Denbigh and Conwy form this area.
The North Wales Coast has some great visitor attractions such as Conwy Castle, Llandudno's Great Orme, Bodnant Gardens, and Rhyl's Sunlife Centre.
Prestatyn is a very popular resort which is famous for its long glorious beaches. The town is home to a large Haven Caravan Park as well as numerous hotels, guest houses, and self catering cottages. Prestatyn is so close to its neighbour Rhyl that it is sometimes mistaken for one large town.
Just along the coast is the town of Rhyl with it's wide promenade and tourist shops that instantly reminds the visitor of Blackpool. Rhyl is home to the Rhyl Pavillion Theatre and the Apollo Cinema with multiple screens. You can get a great view of the local countryside and North Wales coast in the Rhyl Skytower which is located on the promenade.
Rhyl is also home to one of North Wales most popular family attractions, the Rhyl Sunlife Centre with its wave pool and tropical environment.
Visitors to Rhyl can also take in the Rhyl Sealife Centre with its numerous displays of aquatic life.
As you travel further along the coast you reach North Wales largest coastal resort, the ever popular Llandudno.
Llandudno is ideally situated as a base for either enjoying the many attractions of the coastal region or exploring the nearby Snowdonia National Park.
The town is dominated by The Great Orme which naturally shields the beach from the Irish Sea.
Llandudno has many great attractions within the town. Llandudno Pier is worth a walk for the views of the bay and Great Orme, and speaking of which take a ride to its summit in the Great Orme Cable Car which is Britain's longest cable car of this type. Once there enjoy the attractions of the Great Orme Summit Complex and once ready ride back down on the historic Great Orme Tramway.
Llandudno also offers North Wales best shopping area with the recently built Parc Llandudno offering great shopping from the likes of Debenhams and Bhs. Take a walk up Mostyn Street towards the Great Orme and you'll find Marks and Spencer as well as the Victoria Shopping Arcade.
The town of Conwy seems almost like a time capsule with its historic medieval castle and town walls which you can still walk around today.
Conwy Castle is one of North Wales premier tourist attractions attracting thousands of visitors each year. The castle was constructed during the time of King Edward I of England as part of an 'iron ring' to contain the Welsh uprisings.
Conwy has a popular quay with regular boat trips up the Conwy River. You can also visit the Mussel Museum and learn about the towns historic sea trade.
Also on the quayside is the United Kingdom's smallest house which was occupied until around 100 years ago. The house consists of just one room downstairs and one upstairs. A small entrance fee is chargeable to look inside the house and listen to an audio tape explaining its history.
