North Wales Borderlands
The North Wales Borderlands covers a large area of North Wales that takes in the major towns of Wrexham, Llangollen, Mold, Ruthin, Holywell, and Denbigh.
The region encompasses the North Wales counties of Wrexham, Flintshire, Denbighshire, and parts of Conwy.
The North Wales Borderlands are an area infused with a vibrant mix of both Welsh and English culture. The English city of Chester lies very close to the border and is within easy reach of both Wrexham and Mold.
Llangollen to the south is very popular with water sports enthuasists and also forms a part of the canal system of this region of the United Kingdom. Llangollen is also home to the Llangollen Railway, a popular steam train tourist attraction that runs up the Dee Valley towards Snowdonia.
Wrexham is the largest town within the North Wales Borderlands and is in fact classified as a city. Wrexham has a busy shopping district and easy links to the UK road network and is within 30 minutes of Liverpool and 45 minutes of Manchester.
The town of Mold is close to both Chester and Wrexham and hold a popular street market twice a week. Also in Mold is Theatre Clwyd with regular popular shows and performances.
The small town of Holywell is located in the north of the region and was once a major religous site. Today you can still visit the 'Holy well' as well as taking a walk around the ancient monastry.
Further to the west the market towns of Ruthin and Denbigh are within the area known as the Vale of Clywd. This area stretches down into the valleys of the region and as far north as St Asaph which is North Wales smallest city, being classified as such due to its cathedral.
Close to St Asaph is the popular retail outlet the Tweedmill Factory Outlet which has a large selection of clothing and other goods at low prices.
